Methods: A retrospective review of prospectively collected data, spanning the last 20 years, was performed using the cancer registry database at our institution. Definition. Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma of the breast is a rare, well differentiated, and usually slow growing malignant tumor, accounting for less than 0.1% of all breast cancers. It commonly starts in the glandular tissue of the breast as a firm, sometimes tender or painful, movable mass. Adenoid cystic carcinoma of the breast is a rare neoplasm, with only 140 cases having been reported to date. Data on 123 of these cases are reviewed herein and another case is presented in detail. Several features distinguish this type of breast cancer from more typical histologic types and suggest that it may have a unique tumor behavior.
